As someone who's an aficionado of spoofs, parodies, plays and musicals, there are only a few things, names or shows worth mentioning that has an overwhelming content of laughter and sarcasm. So to quench my thirst for that fusion of genre, I have been listening to the works of someone named Gerald Alessandrini for years online and quite frankly, I have been enamoured with it's witty comebacks, satirical content and basically it's comedic relief factor.
So when a friend told me that Upstart Productions Inc. (a company of artists in the Philippines ) was producing this off-broadway production entitled "Forbidden Broadway" , I quickly jumped at the opportunity to tag along and watch. You see, the mock musicals musical that I have been listening to online was one and the same!
Of course, with almost all things that we like and love, we put them on a high pedestal that we assume that no one could reach (have I told you how I loved Alessandrini's work?).
So there I was, camera on hand and a pen and notebook in the other with the mind-set of 'F this production if they don't meet my expectations!' Though, within the minute it started to the time that they began doing a funny skit from Westside Story, I had forgotten that I was supposed to take pictures and write down keywords because I was busy laughing my heart out!
They’ve got the voice, they’ve got the talent in acting and dancing and they’ve got the feathers to tickle your funny bones!
Truly worth the time and money that you spend. If you’re having a bad day at work or frustrated with a few things in life, I suggest you watch this production and you wont regret it!
If you're not familiar with some of the musicals, actors or other things talked about in this production, well, you'll still enjoy it with the productions ingenious lyrics and remarks. And of course, who can forget the wonderful performance of the cast!
I'm glad that the director, Joel Trinidad, picked this show to produce and I'm also happy that he chose Liesl Batucan, Caisa Borromeo, OJ Mariano and Lorenz Martinez for his cast. Their talent's so overwhelming.
KUDOS ON THE OVERALL OUTCOME AND THE CAST MEMBERS, DIRECTORS AND THEIR WHOLE TEAM! I believe I shall watch it again with my family and friends.
