The official list of nominees for the 2015 Tony Awards was officially released. In a press conference hosted by Mary-Louise Parker and Bruce Willis and reported by Broadway.com, the list ended up having most of the nominees coming from “An American In Paris” and “Fun Home” with 12 nominations each. They are followed by “Something Rotten” (10 nominations and “The King and I” (9 nominations).
One of the high-profiles performers today that earned a nomination was two-time Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper. His titular role in the play “The Elephant Man” served to be a good start in his crossover to theater. The nomination he earned in the 2015 Tony Awards for Best Leading Actor in a Play will be a barometer to be used in the future theater performances especially if he gets to bag the price.
The other crossover star that earned positive acclaim was Japanese movie star Ken Watanabe. Playing the memorable Thai monarch King Mongkut in Broadway revival of “The King and I”, the committee at the 2015 Tony Awards was just as enamored enough to get him included in this list of nominees for Best Leading Actor in a Musical.
