Articles - Fluid, theater play by Floy Quintos.
Without really being a musical it does have Broadway tunes in it and you will recognize yourself if you are a Musical Theater goer.
Art issues essentially.
What is art? Is it for sale? Can an artist still be an artist once successful and popular? Or does he/she become a slave of the audience and the media and cannot be themselves anymore?
These are the dilemmas proposed by Floy Quintos and that will make you think and laugh and perhaps even cry during the run of Fluid.
The play has been staged and rewritten already three times, adapting to the situation of each moment in the Philippine culture.
I wonder if the author thinks the artist dies with popularity.
What's with the idea of being a great artist only when you are a starving artist? Well. It's true that hunger makes you more creative and misery gives more truth to pull out in artistic forms...
Sad it's that way. Tho some artists may feel too content when successful and not want to improve anymore, true. But some, the brilliant ones, keep on reinventing themselves and last forever.
Thanks to PR Mr. Toots Tolentino for inviting us to this preview where we really enjoyed.
Likewise steered by Quintos, Fluid delineates the battles of each craftsman living in these present day times. Amir (played by Kalil Almonte) is a baffled adolescent painter going to surrender his fantasies until Mira (Ana Abad Santos), a rich symbolization gatherer, goes along and makes a guarantee to him fortune and achievement. Gay couple Jom (JC Santos) and Alben (Russell Legaspi) are two theater characters torn in the middle of acclaim and honesty. In the interim, Renata (Amihan Ruiz) is a facilitator at an ensemble organization, who clashes with the domineering wedding organizer Simone (Gel Basa).
Special mention for Anthony Falcon, who did an awesome job connecting all scenes as a dancer / comedian.
Shown at College of Saint Benilde as their Technical Theater production course hiring professional actors for it.
