Repertory Philippines, to be specific, Repertory Children's Theatre showcased their own talents through a show entitled Wizard of OZ, based on the book by L. Frank Baum. Under the direction of Ms. Joy Virata.
The show starts with a cute, amusing animation of a rocket ship landing on Mars, The stage lights open up to a young girl named Dorothy (Cara Barredo and Giannina Ocampo) daydreaming about an exciting trip that would wisk her away only to be told off by her Aunt Em (Ayam Barredo Eckstein and Nathalie Everett). Her Uncle Henry (Rem Zamora and Chino Veguillas) also makes an appearance.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the story, Dorothy does indeed get wisked away on her own adventure in the land of OZ. There, she meets the Scarecrow (James Stacey and Arnel Carrion) , Tin man (Hans Eckstein and Nic Campos) and Lion (Oliver Usison and Mano Domingo) and the four of them sets off to find the Wizard of OZ to grant them their wishes. Dorothy a way home, The Scarecrow a brain, The Tin man a heart and the Lion Courage. Though through out their journey, Glinda (Liesl Batucan and Kyla Rivera) the Good Witch assists them while the wicked witch (Pinky Marquez and Rem Zamora) of the west who's sister got crushed by Dorothy's house tries to hinder them on their quest.
The production is Wonderfully done. It's fast paced and quite colorful for the kids and the young at heart to enjoy. The costumes were unique and the set was wonderfully made. And the dance numbers are quite compelling! For those of you who are curious... No... The production is not based on the MGM film and the songs from the movie aren't included. But don't be dismayed as The musical score is quite lovely and very original as well!
So get ready to click those ruby slippers people! You're about to get blown away to the land of OZ!
