Just last May 29, 2015, Matilda The Musical National Tour has started at the Ahmanson Theatre. Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Dodgers. Matilda The Musical is about titular character dreaming of a better life.
Matilda’s genius beyond her years did not stop her from enjoying a life appropriate for her age. This despite the verbal abuse she gets from her family. Mr. Wormwood is upset at Matilda’s love of books. Mrs. Wormwood is more concerned about the dancing parties than her own daughter. Matilda’s brother Michael is more of a pain in the rear even to their parents. But lo and behold! In Matilda The Musical National Tour, you will see how she can hold her own. This was expressed in the song “Naughty”.
She then went to school. Matilda standing up to Miss Trunchbull takes the meat of the story. A verbally abusive person herself, Miss Trunchbull will be seen in action at Matilda The Musical National Tour. At some point, she is portrayed as the kind of educational system using negative reinforcement to discipline the kids. Songs that have demonstrated her hatred for kids are “The Hammer” and “The Chokey Chant”.
Most of the memorable scenes are song-and-dance routines. These features get all the fans excited for Matilda The Musical National Tour. Music and lyrics are provided by Tim Minchin with a book by Dennis Kelly.
The novel of the same name written by Roald Dahl is the same basis of the film of the same title. It was first released as a movie (non-musical) by TriStar Pictures in 1996. Then child star Mara Wilson took on the role of little genius Matilda Wormwood. Matilda The Musical National Tour features 3 young talented performers taking turns on the iconic role of Matilda Wormwood. They are Gabby Gutierrez, Mabel Tyler and Mia Sinclair Jenness.
The rest of Matilda The Musical National Tour cast includes Quinn Mattfeld as Mr. Wormwood, Cassie Silva as Mrs. Wormwood, Jennifer Blood as Miss Honey and Bryce Ryness as Miss Trunchbull. Christopher Nightingale is credited for the musical supervision. Lighting design is by Hugh Vanstone as Simon Baker takes charge of the sound design. Choreography is by Peter Darline as Tony winner Matthew Warchus takes the helm as stage director.
