Years and years after “The X-Files” turned everyone else into skeptics, Fox TV’s top honcho Gary Newman has officially confirmed the deal to reboot the series. And David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their respective roles s Agent Fox Mulder and Agent Dana Scully.
The moment Fox TV’s fellow top honcho Dana Walden confirmed the availability of Duchovny and Anderson along with the show’s creator, Chris Carter, the follow-up was then set. No details are given as to what the next storyline will be.
Apparently, the movie spin-off turned out to be not enough for the rabid fanbase to devour. Instead of another movie, Carter then just hinted at a possible reboot. He mentioned negotiations between him and Fox TV along with the 20th Century Fox, the studio behind “The X-Files”. It seemed that a series of reboots for Fox TV is considered as another “24” reboot (without the Jack Bauer character) is also being proposed.
Reboots constantly feed our cravings for throwbacks, an obvious cultural commentary at how we only realize how awesome some TV shows turned out to be now that they are gone.
But let’s go back to “The X-Files” here. With the internet producing conspiracy theories by the minute, stories discussing the conflict between believers and skeptics is in demand more than ever. Not sure if Carter et al are waiting for the intense curiosity to blow up before considering a reboot. But if you have seen “The X-Files Documentary” at the height of plugging “The X-Files” movie, you would realize how after more than a decade, a lot of the answers are still unanswered. You also would realize what made this series running on high ratings all those years – because they know how to feed on our curiosity.
The first episodes got us thinking “Okay, I had a blast. Where’s the payoff?” Then if started getting personal like the motivation behind Mulder’s intense dedication to investigating about the paranormal. The intensity he possessed through his work made him suspect his partner Agent Scully as an agent of the higher forces in FBI that try to stop him from investigating the paranormal. Shades of conspiracy theories surrounding Area 51, the CIA and the NASA. Among the 3 agencies, only NASA is closed. Could this mean another set of conspiracy theories for us to debunk then?
Kidding. It’s fiction. Whether Carter is inspired by actual events or not, everyone is free to speculate on that. I see everyone having a blast all over again once the reboot gets aired. Who knows? Updates would be posted in this site for sure. Just remember to follow us on our official Facebook page, MusicalsOnline.com, and on our Twitter page @musicalsnews. Thanks for reading.
