Breakdown
Two couples from two generations of a struggling family are challenged by the theft of a masterpiece of art. Theodor – father to William and stepfather to Cornelia – and his wife Margaret – mother to Cornelia and stepmother to William – have led a life of delusion, which has left them exhausted and in debt. Picasso’s “Frugal Repast” is their last straw of hope. Does this family have a chance, and how deep is their involvement in the dark events preceding acquisition of the painting? In the midst of their struggle are Elizabeth and Dennis, two distant friends. Driven by fears of loneliness and failure and growing ever more manipulative, they become deeply involved with the family’s business. Will faith and hope succeed against raging guilt and remorse?
SEEKING actors of any ethnicity for:
MARGARET/ELIZABETH
Female, late 30s-40s. MARGARET: Warmhearted and attractive. Tries to mask her insecurities and fear of aging and being alone. ELIZABETH: Attractive, well-groomed manipulator. Ideally slim and athletic. Stern, strong, and controlling, she knows what she wants. Her past haunts her and she is determined to attain a new life.
THEODOR/DENNIS
Male, 40s-early 60s. THEODOR: Darkly attractive. Tries hard for something else. Years of self-betrayal and lying to himself have marked him. A bit awkward and uncomfortable, maybe with a bit of a stutter. DENNIS: Handsome, with a slight German accent. Hides elements of his life. Possessive, aggressive; seems nice on the surface but has a steely interior.
WILLIAM
Male, late 30s-early 40s. Aggressive, bulky, with a dark sexiness. Wants money. Lacks education.
CORNELIA
Female, 20s. A caring young woman who is honest and truthful, but gets drawn in.
