While some theater companies in Europe revive classic musicals by staging them in their home countries and sung in their native languages, some theater productions make an effort to present musicals that has served a niche in their home base.
I am referring to theaters like this one in Utrecht, Netherlands – the Beatrix Theater. I checked out their list offering for 2015 and most of them are musicals.
“Waanzinnig Gedroomd” (Dreamed) features some of the Netherlands’ most beloved songs that has cheered them up for the last 35 years. A story that teaches kids how to express themselves through music, it does not shy away from the fact that kids struggle for attention from their parents who in turn are struggling to provide for their children while keeping their careers.
When Guus and his mom, Julie, move to the city, he tried to survive school where he keeps getting bullied. The new school director got a little too preoccupied with his teen daughter since rebellion often coincides with the pain of being a teen. So he ended up asking the help of a music stalwart, Augustus. Augustus in turn tried to turn around what he found in school. It served as an opportunity for Guus to share his talent too. But what talent could it be?
Kids of all ages are expected to enjoy this fun romp through life as expressed in music. “Waanzinnig Gedroomd” will be showing at Beatrix Theater Utrecht on February 23 and 24, 2015. Tickets are still selling well so buy some for the whole family to enjoy by clicking here.
The musical adaptation of the hit TV series of the same name, “Moeder, Ik Wil Bij De Revue” (Mother, I Want To Revue) is a homage to the days when revue shows are still in vogue in the Netherlands.
“Moeder, Ik Wil Bij De Revue” airs exclusively on Beatrix Theater Utrecht in September 2015. Specific dates for everyone interested to buy tickets can be seen here.
The live action musical version of the hit 3D animated series, “Brandweerman Sam Live!” (Fireman Sam Live!) is set to return to Beatrix Theater Utrecht. Fresh from its December 27 success, Brandweeman Sam returns with Commandant Staal, the consistently naughty Norbert and the rest of the crew to bring to life the kind of adventures usually seen in the animated series.
Everyone interested to see their triumphant return are encouraged to show up in their fireman outfits on May 2015. Beatrix Theater Utrecht welcomes everyone participating in it. Buy tickets now while supplies still last by clicking here.
“Dora The Explorer Live!” returns to entertain Dutch audiences through their Utrecht leg in Beatrix Theater Utrecht. Based on the hit Nick Jr. animated series, Dora is reunited with her best friend, Boots, and the rest of the gang – Backpack and Map – as she travels to the City of Lost Toys. Swiper is still looming in the background, someone Dora and her friends should always keep an eye out for.
Dora Live! will be staged at Beatrix Theater Utrecht on May 2015. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
Beatrix Theater Utrecht has improv theater in the itinerary too – “De Grote Improvisatieshow” (The Big Improvisation Show). Just don’t ask me to explain that screenshot (I got it from YouTube’s excerpt of one of their performances).
Featuring the zany antics and punchlines of Ruben van der Meer and Tijl Beckand, “De Grote Improvisatieshow” (The Big Improvisation Show) will feature skits involving investments gone awkward in an LGBT film festival in St. Petersburg (right in Mother Russia), a life-size portrait of Michael Jackson made of Japanese beer caps and a large-scale musical exploring the origins of opera. And I haven’t shared half of the craziness promised in the itinerary.
I hope the screenshot alone gave you an idea how crazy things could get so no kids please. “De Grote Improvisatieshow” (The Big Improvisation Show) will be staged at Beatrix Theater Utrecht on May 2015. For tickets, buy them by clicking here.
After enjoying the musicals and similar productions, you may unwind at the Queen’s Restaurant. Just adjacent to the spot where the musicals get staged, you can enjoy a full-course dinner. You have the option to dine at the theater itself. Book your reservations here and secure some fantastic deals.
