One of the craziest musicals to smash this side of the performing arts is ready for Brighton. But is Brighton ready for The Rocky Horror Show? Can you feel the anticipation?
Now hold your horses. Or in this case, water pistols, whichever you have. You would be very glad to have Rocky Horror Show in Brighton. As it may not be the typical musical theater experience that you’d be experiencing in a long time. No wonder curiosity consumes you. What is Rocky Horror Show all about?
Rocky Horror Show is a musical production that was inspired by the horror trend during the 70’s. Except that they poked fun at it. And danced all around it. Let that serve as a nice premonition to how things would end here. The most obvious reference is Magenta’s close up shot of her mouth. Presenting a brief overview of the story, it was a reference to “Jaws”. And you’re sure to get a mouthful of what you end up thinking as your conventional horror story in Rocky Horror Show in Brighton.
An engaged couple, Brad and Janet, rode a car that broke down close to a haunted palace. Brad thought of getting into the palace to seek help. Maybe they have a telephone with which the couple can seek help. Janet’s possessiveness got the better of her. Brad might stay a little longer than expected. So she went with him. Little did they realize the kind of insanity that exists behind that massive and intimidating facade. The kind of insanity that would be expected in Rocky Horror Show in Brighton as well.
And who is Rocky here in the story? He is a freak of science with blond hair and a tan. He’s created by Dr. Frank N. Furter. A mad scientist in charge of the psychedelia within the palace. He created the proverbial “forbidden fruit”. Much of the story revolved around him and the mad scientist. Most fans referred to the latter as a “Sweet Transvestite”. Rocky and his biceps are the main reasons behind an escalated feud between Janet and Dr. Furter. To think that the mad scientist chastised Janet. “I did not create him for you!” Ouch!
Imagine a couple of college nerds. So uptight in their upbringing. Taken into a party they don’t expect to be in. Much of the freedom presented here in the Rocky Horror Show is sexual. Let that serve as a word of caution in case you think about taking your kids along. If you are of legal age though, you’re very much encouraged to see Rocky Horror Show in Brighton.
The sexuality is presented in a tongue-in-cheek manner that is easy to understand. It is tackled so lightly through outrageous song-and-dance numbers. Practically everything in this musical production sticks to your consciousness months after witnessing Rocky Horror Show in Brighton. Some friends that have seen this zany musical in other cities or countries might even warn you about that thing called last song syndrome. Even the audience becomes “collateral damage” to the overflowing psychedelia in this musical.
