Jeanine Tesori’s Broadway Journey, From “Thoroughly Modern Millie” to “Kimberly Akimbo”

Jeanine Tesori just won a Tony Award for her Broadway musical, “Kimberly Akimbo,” making her the first female composer to win multiple Tony Awards for Best Original Score. In the latest entry to Playbill’s video series, "My Life in the Theatre," Tesori sits down with a Playbill binder containing every Playbill from every show she’s ever done on Broadway. Tesori walks us through her career, from her start in the Broadway pit orchestra to doctoring other people’s tunes to finally composing her own Broadway show—plus learn what Broadway show she did where one of the producers was in jail, and how “Thoroughly Modern Millie” was originally going to be a jukebox musical.
